City Development Manager - Southampton

Contract – full time

6 months

Key Accountabilities

To lead on a portfolio of major property development projects and to head-up inter-disciplinary (and sometimes cross-organisational) project teams charged with implementing them.

As a member of the City Development Team to support the Service Lead in the formulation and implementation of strategies, with respect to:

  • progress of the City,
  • quality of life of citizens
  • project management
  • mobilisation and development of resources.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Advice to Members on the nature, level and provision of projects required by the Council to achieve objectives for the City, the City Centre in particular, and the advancement of the City and city region in general.
  • Project Management of commissions received from Committees to progress specified major projects and investments, meeting budget, timescale and quality considerations, including:
  • projects designed and implemented,
  • projects of significance to the city in which the council is a stakeholder (eg with planning and/ or land ownership  roles).
  • Management of a Project Support Officer and seconded staff and consultants as appropriate
  • To undertake identification, design, appraisal, implementation, monitoring and evaluation exercises. To liaise closely with potential developers and inward investors in the promotion of property development schemes and with the private sector in general.
